Hydrogen: Barriers and Opportunities | ACOLA Parliamentary Library Seminars
This seminar is part of a collaboration between the Parliamentary Library and the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) to bring Australia’s leading minds from Australia’s Learned Academies and other experts to important topics of interest to Parliament.
Australia’s emerging hydrogen industry is increasingly seen as an important element of Australia’s efforts to reach net zero emissions by 2050. There are also forecasts of strong growth in the international demand for hydrogen. That demand growth offers unique opportunities for Australia.
This presentation sought to look beyond the headlines of Australia being a hydrogen superpower and will delve deeper into the opportunities and barriers associated with hydrogen. It will explore where the greatest opportunities lie for domestic and international hydrogen production, use and export, and discuss the technical and economic barriers facing the industry.
This session was a conversation led by Dr John Söderbaum FTSE and Dr Fiona Beck.
The seminar was held on 12 December 2022 and recorded by the Parliamentary Library.
