In the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI), the intersection of technology and copyright law poses unique challenges and opportunities. The rise of generative AI has sparked significant disputes, in particular in the area of copyright law and copyright principle: there is ongoing litigation overseas and significant debates here in Australia over whether, and if so how, copyright should be reformed. Australian law in this area differs significantly from elsewhere. During this session we will explain how copyright law relates to the lifecycle and use of generative AI and set out some of the copyright questions that arise.
