The Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) brings together Australia’s five Learned Academies, each formally recognised by the Australian Government under the Higher Education Support Act (HESA):
- Australian Academy of the Humanities
- Australian Academy of Science
- Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia
- Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering
- Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences
Collectively, these Academies represent thousands of Australia’s leading researchers, scholars and experts across the humanities, sciences, social sciences, engineering, technology, and health and medical sciences.
Through ACOLA, this breadth of expertise is brought together to provide independent, interdisciplinary advice on complex national challenges, helping inform policy, research priorities and long-term decision-making.
ACOLA also works with Associate Members, whose Fellows contribute to ACOLA’s projects and initiatives. Fellows are invited to participate in expert working groups, consultations and interdisciplinary discussions, providing insight and expertise across a wide range of issues facing Australia and the world.
