ACOLA acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters on which we live and work across Australia and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.
More than a word. Reconciliation takes action – this National Reconciliation Week urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. We all must play an active role in achieving a just, equitable and reconciled Australia.
This week is a time that all Australians can learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to find out ways that we can become an active participant in supporting Australia’s reconciliation process.
National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June 2021. These are the same dates each year, as they commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
This morning, to recognise the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, we published a short video of our Acknowledgement of Country to open our morning meeting. Our Acknowledgement of Country allows us to recognise that no matter where we are across this nation, we are on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands. It provides us with an opportunity to pay our respects to the Elders past and present; and to acknowledge the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.
