With his research group, Professor Patrick has discovered mechanisms regulating the transport and distribution of organic carbon compounds throughout the plant body that form the building blocks for their growth. Genetically manipulating some of these mechanisms has been shown to positively influence crop yield. He is a participant in the higher education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and in developing Reconciliation Action Plans for several institutions.
