Dr John Söderbaum FTSE
Dr John Söderbaum is the Director of Science and Technology for ACIL Allen. He has over 40 years of experience in working for government, the private sector and international organisations. John has a Bachelor of Science degree (with first-class honours) from the University of Western Australia and a doctorate in physics from the ANU. In 2010 he was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology, Science and Engineering (ATSE). He is the Deputy Chair of the ATSE Energy Forum.
John’s interest in hydrogen is long-standing. In 2003, he was the lead author of the Australian National Hydrogen Study. This report helped to set the framework for Australia’s domestic and international activities in the hydrogen area for over a decade. John’s more recent hydrogen projects, include: a report for ARENA examining the opportunities for Australia to export hydrogen, several reports that informed the development of Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy (including an Issues Paper that examined matters relevant to the blending of hydrogen in gas networks and a report on how hydrogen can support electricity systems). Most recently, he was one of the peer reviewers for the International Energy Agency’s Global Hydrogen Review 2022.
