Building Australia’s Mega-Engineering | ACOLA Parliamentary Library Seminars
This seminar is part of a collaboration between the Parliamentary Library and the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) to bring Australia’s leading minds from Australia’s Learned Academies and other experts to important topics of interest to Parliament.
Building Australia’s mega-engineering – how do we stack up globally?
This webinar explores mega-engineering projects in Australia and the complexities they experience. Panellists will examine the factors contributing to delays, design issues and unexpected cost increases in Australia’s infrastructure development. They will also consider bureaucratic, cost, environmental, social license, and logistical complexities, and discuss potential reforms to streamline infrastructure development for a better-built and responsive infrastructure future.
This session was a conversation led by Professor Jennifer Whyte and Scientia Professor Brian Uy.
This seminar was held on 4 April 2024 and recorded by the Parliamentary Library.
