Developing Australia’s critical technologies | ACOLA Parliamentary Library Seminars
This seminar is part of a collaboration between the Parliamentary Library and the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) to bring Australia’s leading minds from Australia’s Learned Academies and other experts to important topics of interest to Parliament.
Many current and emerging technological advancements will have a substantial impact on society, the economy, and national security. These are often referred to as ‘critical technologies’. These technologies may also require secure supply chains and/or sovereign capability. Besides their economic and societal importance, a key aspect of what makes the technologies critical is they all require investment ahead of time. The range of technologies that fall into this category is very broad and impossible to cover in a single session. This webinar illustrates a few exemplars of critical technologies and considers the investments necessary to ensure Australia’s success in adopting and/or using these technologies. The session will also explore the considerations for policy makers and the role of government in addressing the challenges and opportunities these technologies bring.
This session was a conversation led by Professor Hugh Bradlow FTSE.
The seminar was held on 11 October 2023 and recorded by the Parliamentary Library.
