Media Release: August 2019
The Board is pleased to announce that Mr Ryan Winn will be joining ACOLA as our new Chief Executive Officer
Starting 2 September 2019
Ryan has held various executive roles across the Australian Government over the last decade, including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He will be joining us from the Australian Government Department of Education where he has been leading the development of policy and identification of investments in national research infrastructure. His recent successes include development of the 2018 Research Infrastructure Investment Plan and supporting Dr Alan Finkel, Australia’s Chief Scientist, and an expert group in developing the 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap.
Throughout this recent role he has worked closely with all levels of government, academic and industry stakeholders to prioritise and scope the research infrastructure critical to enabling world-class research in Australia. This places him well to support the work of ACOLA in driving independent expert advice to inform national policy and develop innovative solutions to complex global problems and emerging national needs.
Ryan’s policy experience has covered higher education, research and innovation systems, early childhood and child care, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and remote service delivery, domestic and family violence, family payments, the use of data, research careers and emerging technologies. Ryan holds a Bachelor in Social Work from Curtin University and a Masters in Business Administration (Innovation and Leadership) from University of Canberra.
“Ryan’s strong background in government will be a valuable asset for ACOLA in helping us future enhance our engagement with Australian Governments, both Federal and State, and I look forward to working with him to strengthen ACOLA’s contribution to Australia and the world’s big challenges.”
Professor Hugh Bradlow, Chair of the ACOLA Board
